• How to use enlargers, safelights, and other darkroom equipment
• A basic understanding of photographic paper, multigrade filters, and printing chemistry, so you can use them predictably and creatively.
• Making test strips and split-grade printing for easy exposure and contrast control
• Dodging and burning for local brightness and contrast control
• Making contact sheets to evaluate and select your best negatives
• Print evaluation and troubleshooting to assess print quality, contrast, and tonality to achieve your artistic vision
In this hands-on workshop, you'll learn and practice creative black and white photo printing in the darkroom from film negatives. We'll demonstrate a complete, easy-to-follow darkroom procedure from the enlarger through development, wash, and drying. And we'll walk you through making your own prints from your negatives (or ours if you prefer). We'll provide handouts you can use as a guide in the future.
